Events in Vienna in July 2026


Summer is in full swing, the days are long, and life has almost completely moved outdoors (unless you are escaping the heat). From the film festival to a picnic in the Prater, there is so much to experience this month. So here it is, my monthly guide for July, packed with plenty of tips and dates to make your Viennese summer truly wonderful. Have fun browsing through!

Open-Air Festivals and Events in July 2026 in Vienna

Filmfestival Rathausplatz
July 4 to September 6, 2026

WHEN:
Saturday, July 4 to Sunday, September 6, 2026, from 11 am to Midnight. Food available until 11 pm, drinks until 11:45 pm.
WHERE:
Rathausplatz, 1010 Vienna
ADMISSION:
Free
HIGHLIGHTS:
Every evening, music films are shown on a giant screen in front of the City Hall: pop, rock, classical music, and every Sunday performances from the Vienna State Opera, operetta, musicals, jazz, and blues (full program). Every Friday at 6 pm, the Children’s Opera Festival takes place in the Rathauspark.
There is a gastronomy area featuring a wide variety of stalls with international and Austrian cuisine, such as Kaiserschmarrn, teppanyaki, Greek, Mexican, crepes and waffles, cevapcici, schnitzel, kebab, and much more.

WIENER OPERNSOMMER

WHEN:

Open-air opera performance in a spectacular setting ; this year, the opera “Carmen” by Georges Bizet will be performed.

Prater Picnic of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra
July 1 and 2, 2026

WHEN:
Wednesday, July 1 and Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 7:30 PM each day.
Doors open at 5:30 PM (5,000 spectators will be admitted)
WHERE:
Kaiserwiese, Prater, 1020 Vienna

HIGHLIGHTS:
This open-air concert by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra takes place every year to celebrate the end of the school year. This year featuring Rolando Villazón and Ilia Staple, among others.

Kultursommer Wien (Vienna Culture Summer)

HIGHLIGHTS:
Open-air stages with a program featuring cabaret, literature, music, dance, theater, and circus in various Viennese neighborhoods. Additionally, there is a children’s program and garden concerts in retirement homes.

25 Years of Museumsquartier – Courtyard Art Festival
July 2, 2026

HIGHLIGHTS:
Highlights from 25 years of MQ history, such as performances, music, literature, club sounds, DJ sets, and exhibitions.
MY TIP:
Free admission between 6 pm and 9 pm to the Leopold Museum and 2 free guided tours about the Vienna Ringstraße and urban development (by the way, Porr Night takes place every first Thursday of the month from 6 pm to 9 pm with free admission to the Leopold Museum).
